One of the ladies at our church was a keen seamstress. As a church fundraiser she used to do alterations and odd little sewing jobs for people to raise money.
She had a regular scale of charges for common things such as taking up trousers and hems etc. She also did invisible mending and sew on buttons etc.
Her services were really popular. Even some of the trendy kids would take their jeans and tops to her to be altered.
Her services and prices were advertised in the parish newsletter and the local store. All the money she raised went straight into the parish fund.
