Our church has quite a lot of keen gardeners and several members of the congregation have vegetable allotments. For some years now we have had a table in the churchyard where people can put spare produce and plants. Other people can then buy anything that takes their fancy with all the money going to the church. The table is really popular and often there are cakes, cookies and muffins for sale too. I think that when people are baking at home they put in an extra tray of cakes for the church. Last year we also had some lovely local honey and jam as well.
The produce table has become a little focal point after the main Sunday service and people tend to hang around, look at what's on sale and chat. It doesn't make lots of money but it does make a bit. It also adds a bit to our church community.
